Fr. George Choorakkatt, Former POC Director and KCBC Media Secretary, Passes Away

Palai, July 24, 2025: Fr. George Choorakkatt, a senior priest of the Diocese of Palai who formerly served as Vicar General and held several significant roles within the Church in Kerala, passed away on July 24 at the age of 82. 

Born in 1943, Fr Choorakkatt belonged to the Paduva parish and was ordained in 1968. Over the years, he held several key responsibilities in the Church in Kerala. He served as the Director of the Pastoral Orientation Centre (POC) from 1983 to 1984 and was also the Secretary of the Media Commission of the Kerala Catholic Bishops’ Council (KCBC).

He had previously served as the Vicar of the Cathedral in Palai and later as Vicar General of the diocese. His contributions to pastoral formation and Church communications were widely acknowledged within ecclesial circles.

The Diocese of Palai is expected to release further details regarding funeral arrangements.
