First Statue of Saint Carlo Acutis Installed at Chromepet Church in Tamil Nadu

Chromepet, Chennai, September 10, 2025 – For the first time in Tamil Nadu, a statue of Saint Carlo Acutis has been installed at the Immaculate Conception Church, Chromepet, in the Chengalpattu Diocese.

Youth Sunday was celebrated at Chromepet parish church and as a significant part of the celebration, the statue of Carlo Acutis—who was officially declared a saint at the Vatican—was installed. At the very moment of his canonisation in Rome, the statue was blessed by Fr. L. Lawrence, Secretary of the Chengalpattu Diocesan Youth Commission.

Parish priest Fr Pakia Regis said, “This statue has been installed to proclaim that holiness is possible even for today’s youth.” He further added, “I believe this will be the first statue of Saint Carlo installed in Tamil Nadu.” He also emphasised that the internet should be used to spread love and peace, not hatred.

The newly blessed statue of Saint Carlo, along with Our Lady of the Eucharist, will be placed in front of the Eucharistic Chapel within the church premises, as a sign of devotion and love for the Eucharist.

In addition, a second-class relic of Saint Carlo will be installed in the church starting today. The first-class relic will be placed for veneration by the faithful on October 5, the parish priest announced.

On October 12, the feast day of Saint Carlo, a youth group called Carlo’s Comrades will be launched in the parish, consisting of young people who are studying or working in the field of IT. The mission of this group will be to spread love and Christian values through the internet.

As part of the Youth Sunday celebrations, a special seminar was organised with the guest Dr A. Jayaraj, founder of Manna Mess and a young entrepreneur, to encourage youth towards entrepreneurship. Speaking on the theme “Endure – Break Barriers – Hold On”, his talk inspired the young participants with new enthusiasm.
