Jalandhar, Punjab, April 26, 2025: In a heartfelt display of respect and solidarity, the Diocese of Jalandhar organised a day of prayer on April 25, 2025, to honour the memory of Pope Francis, who passed away on April 21, 2025. The prayer services, held across 12 deaneries, aimed to bring together the faithful to reflect on the Pope's life and teachings.
Holy Masses and Reflection
The main Holy Mass was held at St. Mary's Cathedral, Jalandhar Cantt, and was attended by the Jalandhar Cantt & City, Kapurthala, and Tanda Deaneries. Bishop Agnelo Gracias, the Apostolic Administrator, presided over the celebration and highlighted three key themes that defined Pope Francis's papacy: compassion, dialogue with people of all faiths, and peace. Bishop Gracias emphasised that these themes were central to Pope Francis's words and actions, and encouraged the faithful to continue his legacy.
Interfaith Tribute
Following the Holy Mass, prominent members of the city, including Cabinet Minister Mohinder Bhagat, DC Rajwinder Kaur, Mayor Veneer Dhir, and representatives of the Commissioner of Police, paid floral tributes to Pope Francis. Other dignitaries who offered condolences included BJP Ex-MLA KD Bandari, MLA Pragat Singh, MP and Chairman of LPU Ashok Mittal, Ex-MLA Mr. Beri, and CA Officer Sial. The interfaith tribute underscored Pope Francis's ability to unite people across different faiths and backgrounds.
