Diocesan Directors Convene in Patna for Bihar Regional BECs Meeting

Patna, Bihar – May 19, 2025: The Bihar Regional Basic Ecclesial Communities (BECs) Diocesan Directors Meeting was held from May 18 to 19, 2025, at Navajyoti Niketan in Patna. Diocesan directors from across the region participated in the meeting to review progress, address challenges, and chart a future course for BECs in Bihar. Fr. George Jacob Palackaparambil SAC, Executive Secretary of the CCBI Commission for BECs, presided over the meeting.

The two-day event opened on Sunday, May 18, with a solemn Holy Eucharist celebrated by Most Rev. Peter Sebastian Goveas. Following the Eucharistic celebration and breakfast, participants gathered for the Bible Enthronement ceremony, followed by a welcome address and an inspiring message from the bishop.

Fr. George Jacob SAC, Executive Secretary of the CCBI Commission for BECs, introduced the purpose and objectives of the meeting. The morning session was dedicated to sharing and listening, as diocesan directors presented the status and development of BECs in their respective dioceses. Moderated by Sr. Christin, this session encouraged open dialogue and mutual learning.

Post-lunch, Fr. George responded to the presentations, summarising key insights and recurring themes. The evening was devoted to a presentation on the CCBI Pastoral Plan by Fr. George and Sr. Christin, followed by a Gospel Sharing session that fostered spiritual fellowship among the participants.

On the second day, May 19, the programme commenced with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. After breakfast, Fr. George introduced the Spiritual Conversation method, guiding discussions on the strengths, weaknesses, and challenges faced by BECs. A collaborative session on planning for future initiatives led by Sr. Christin Joseph encouraged open discussion and strategic thinking among the participants.

The meeting concluded with a closing lunch and expressions of gratitude from the participants. Several diocesan directors appreciated the opportunity to share their experiences and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening BECs in line with the CCBI’s pastoral vision.
