Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha Mr. Harivansh, Attends Inaugural Mass of Pope Leo XIV

Vatican City, 18 May 2025 — Harivansh, Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, represented India at the inaugural Mass of His Holiness Pope Leo XIV at Saint Peter’s Square in Vatican City.


The ceremony drew thousands of pilgrims, clergy, and dignitaries from across the globe. In his first public address, Pope Leo XIV called for unity, compassion, and global cooperation to address pressing humanitarian and environmental challenges.


Following the Mass, Harivansh met briefly with the Pontiff and conveyed his felicitations on behalf of the people of India. “I extended our nation's warm wishes and prayers for strength and wisdom in his spiritual leadership,” he said.


Describing the event as “profound and unifying,” Harivansh praised the Pope’s inclusive message, noting its resonance with India’s values of peace, tolerance, and interfaith harmony.


The inauguration marks the beginning of Pope Leo XIV’s tenure at a time when the Church faces modern challenges and opportunities for renewal. India’s presence at the historic occasion underlined its commitment to global dialogue and spiritual solidarity.
