New Delhi, January 9, 2025: In a groundbreaking moment, Dr. Sister Noel Rose, a member of the Congregation of the Mother of Carmel (CMC), will lead the 12-member National Service Scheme (NSS) contingent from Kerala at the Republic Day parade in Delhi. This is the first time in history that a nun will lead the NSS volunteers, making it a rare and remarkable achievement.
"Leading the Kerala contingent in the Republic Day Parade in Delhi as a nun is a deeply humbling and proud moment for me. It symbolizes the harmony between faith, service, and patriotism… Representing Kerala on such a prestigious platform is an honor, and I am grateful for the chance to inspire others through this role," she said.
Dr. Sister Noel Rose, who serves as the NSS Idukki District Coordinator and professor at Newman College, is no stranger to excellence. She has been twice awarded the Best Program Officer Award by Mahatma Gandhi University and was also selected for the state level. Elaborating on her passion for social work, especially among the youth, she stated, “I believe that engaging with them in meaningful service can transform their mindset and nurture them into compassionate, responsible individuals.”
The NSS contingent, comprising volunteers from various universities in Kerala and the Institute of Human Resources Development (IHRD), will march proudly under Dr. Sister Noel Rose's leadership. Sr. Maria Anto, the Provincial Superior of CMC Mary Matha province, Angamaly, described Sr. Noel as an energetic and vibrant person who is very faithful to the service. “Sr. Noel was born to do this and we are all very proud of her achievements,” she said.
