Shivamogga, December 15, 2025 — A Christmas programme was organised for women inmates at the Central Women’s Prison, Shivamogga, on December 12 by volunteers of Prison Ministry India (PMI)–Shimoga, in collaboration with the sisters, staff and students of Mary Immaculate Convent and School.
The event was attended by prison officials, volunteers and inmates. Sr. Elize Lurdh SCB, Secretary of the Women Commission of the Diocese of Shimoga, welcomed the gathering.
As part of the programme, Sisters Rita Shanthi SCB, Shobhana SCB, Cynthia SCB, Rose Maria and Elize Lurdh SCB, along with school staff and students, presented Christmas carols, skits and dance performances. Sr. Rita Shanthi and Sr. Shobhana also spoke on the significance of Christmas, explaining the biblical account of the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem, the symbolism of the crib, the visit of the shepherds and the Magi.
Speakers also referred to Jubilee Year 2025, which commemorates the birth of Christ, and highlighted its spiritual importance. The programme concluded with a message of goodwill and solidarity with the inmates.
