Delhi, November 6, 2024: Today, marks 25 years since Pope Saint John Paul II visited New Delhi, India, to sign Ecclesia in Asia, the Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation focusing on Jesus Christ’s mission of love and salvation in Asia. Signed in 1999, Ecclesia in Asia calls the Church to share Jesus' message in ways that resonate with the diverse spiritual and cultural traditions of Asia, fostering peace, respect and service.
The exhortation emphasizes sharing Jesus with all, encouraging the Church to reach out with a spirit of interfaith respect and understanding. It advocates blending the Gospel with Asian cultures, making faith relatable and vibrant. Furthermore, Ecclesia in Asia highlights the Church’s mission to serve those in need, embodying hope and compassion for the vulnerable.
As the global Catholic community approaches the Jubilee Year 2025, this milestone provides an opportunity to reflect on how Ecclesia in Asia can inspire a synodal, inclusive, and dynamic Church across the continent. In commemorating this anniversary, the faithful are encouraged to renew their commitment to live and share the Good News with humility, love, and courage, inspired by Pope Saint John Paul II’s vision for the Church in Asia.
