CDPI Kerala Strengthens Priestly Fraternity and Ongoing Formation Initiatives

Kochi, July 8, 2026: The Kerala Region of the Conference of Diocesan Priests of India (CDPI) met at Alpha Pastoral Centre, Ernakulam, on July 8 to strengthen priestly fraternity and promote ongoing formation initiatives.

Held under the leadership of Bishop Selvarajan, the regional patron of CDPI, the meeting brought together representatives from nine dioceses to reflect on the life and mission of diocesan priests. Participants expressed concern over the growing isolation and discouragement faced by priests, while reaffirming CDPI's role in fostering fraternity, care and perseverance in priestly ministry. Bishop Selvarajan assured the gathering that these concerns would be taken up with the bishops' council.

The meeting resolved to strengthen unity by encouraging regional leaders to visit dioceses, engage with priests and promote CDPI initiatives. Efforts will also be made to secure greater recognition for CDPI at diocesan and KRLCCC levels.

Ongoing formation emerged as a key priority, with programmes planned for priests at different stages of ministry. The first gathering, for priests ordained between 2016 and 2020, will be held in February at Kottayam. Fellowship meetings for senior priests are also planned to encourage mutual support and sharing.

The annual General Body meeting will take place from November 4 to 5 at POC, Ernakulam, and will include a special Eucharistic celebration honouring jubilee priests. A Sports Day, scheduled for January 26 at Assisi School, Kakkanad, will promote fraternity through healthy recreation.

To strengthen support for priests facing difficulties, the regional body appointed coordinators to provide psychological and legal assistance. The meeting concluded with a message of hope and unity from Bishop Selvarajan.

The next regional gathering is scheduled for September 21 at Logos Pastoral Centre, Neyyattinkara, reaffirming the Kerala Region's commitment to walking together, supporting one another and strengthening the joy of priestly ministry.
