ROME, September 21, 2026: Catholics around the world are being invited to unite in prayer for peace through the Global Rosary for Peace, which will take place on October 22, the feast of St. John Paul II. The international prayer initiative will bring together families, parishes, schools, religious communities and individuals in a shared recitation of the Rosary.
The live prayer event will begin at 10.00 a.m. US Eastern Time (ET), which will be 7.30 p.m. Indian Standard Time (IST). Holy Cross Family Ministries (HCFM), which is organising the initiative, has invited Catholics worldwide to participate.
The Global Rosary for Peace is part of HCFM's continuing mission to promote family prayer and devotion to the Rosary. The initiative responds to Pope Leo XIV's call for Catholics to pray the Rosary for peace and seeks to create a moment of prayer that crosses geographical and cultural boundaries.
The organisers reported that more than 67,000 people participated in the first global event, while more than 95,000 people had already registered for this year's live Rosary at the time of the announcement.
Fr. Fred Jenga, CSC, president of HCFM, said the initiative emerged from the need to respond through prayer to conflicts and crises affecting people around the world.
“There is always some kind of global crisis that is going on that really calls us to pray more,” he said, encouraging the faithful to continue praying for peace.
HCFM was founded by Venerable Patrick Peyton, the Irish-born Holy Cross priest widely known as the “Rosary priest”. His ministry was centred on encouraging families to pray together, particularly through the Family Rosary.
Fr. Jenga highlighted the role of prayer in strengthening family life and encouraged families to place God at the centre of their daily lives. He also reflected on the different mysteries of the Rosary, noting how they accompany people through experiences of joy, sorrow, mission and glory.
He pointed to the Eucharist and the Rosary as two important elements in the spiritual lives of many saints, encouraging families to draw strength from both.
Fr. Jenga expressed hope that those taking part would renew their confidence in the power of prayer and use the event as an opportunity to begin or deepen regular prayer within their families.
The official HCFM website invites Catholics to register for the Global Rosary for Peace and participate in the worldwide initiative on October 22 at 10.00 a.m. ET / 7.30 p.m. IST.
The organisers hope that families and communities across the world will unite in prayer, entrusting the needs of the Church, families and the wider world to God through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
