Archdiocese of Dhaka Inaugurates Jubilee Year 2025

Dhaka, January 20, 2025: The Jubilee Year 2025 was inaugurated in the Archdiocese of Dhaka with a grand celebration on January 7, 2025, at the Cathedral of St. Mary in Dhaka. The event was led by Archbishop Bejoy Nicephorus D'Cruze and Cardinal Patrick D'Rozario. Several bishops, priests, and members of the faithful attended the celebration.

In his homily, Archbishop D’Cruze urged the congregation to reflect on their blessings and embrace the transformative power of hope. “Gratitude for the many blessings we have received in our lives should guide us forward,” he said.

Addressing contemporary challenges, the Archbishop echoed Pope Francis' call for unity and resilience. “In the streets today, we see bitterness and division among people. Pope Francis has called us to build friendships, uphold dignity, and demonstrate tolerance towards one another,” he stated.

The prelate also urged the faithful to maintain hope in this age of conflict, affirming that Jesus has the power to transform lives. "Let us be a people of hope," he said.

He further noted that individuals with hope can face life's challenges with resilience and maturity and lead better lives. "In doing so, we will also come to realize that Jesus indeed walks alongside us," Archbishop D’Cruze said.

The Jubilee Year, announced by Pope Francis, holds a message of hope for Catholics worldwide. Diponkor Gomes, a participant from Tejgaon parish, highlighted its significance in light of current global challenges. Speaking to AsiaNews, he remarked, “In Bangladesh and the rest of the world, we are witnessing conflicts, wars, and economic hardships. I deeply believe this Jubilee Year will be a blessing for us."

Pallab D'Rozario, another participant and businessman, also expressed his optimism about the year’s transformative potential. ‘It is a holy and meaningful time for us, and I welcome it with joy”, he told AsiaNews. “I hope this Holy Year will transform us and bring blessings: let everyone eliminate what is negative from their lives and embrace a path of conversion,” he added.
