- 14 August, 2025
New Delhi, August 14, 2025 – The Archdiocese of Delhi, in collaboration with civil society and ecumenical groups, will hold a peaceful protest on Saturday, September 6, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, against the growing wave of violence, discrimination, and systemic oppression targeting religious minorities and marginalized communities across India.
The protest, endorsed by Most Rev. Anil J. T. Couto, Archbishop of Delhi and Patron of the Archdiocese’s Commission for Archdiocesan Affairs and Development (CAAD), is supported by 22 members of the Indian Christian Parliamentarians’ Council. It aims to raise a collective voice against atrocities faced by Christians, Muslims, Dalits, Other Backward Classes (OBCs), women, and other vulnerable groups.
The key demands include:
Immediate Action Against Targeted Hate and Violence – Prompt investigation and prosecution of offenders targeting minority and marginalized communities.
Strengthening Legal Protections – Repeal or amend laws misused against minorities, including certain anti-conversion laws, and enforce existing safeguards such as the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Promoting Social Harmony – Government-led initiatives to curb hate speech, communal polarisation, and caste-based discrimination.
Inclusive Policies – Economic and social measures to address systemic marginalisation of OBCs, Adivasis, and other underrepresented communities.
Parishes within the Archdiocese have been urged to announce the protest and mobilise participants, with organisers suggesting arranging transport for parishioners.
For details, participants may contact Mr. A. C. Michael, Convener of the Organising Committee, at 9818155290.
Archbishop Couto emphasised that the peaceful protest is a vital stand for justice, equality, and human dignity, calling for maximum participation to strengthen the collective resolve.
