Archbishop of Calcutta Appeals for Flood Relief Contributions

Kolkata, September 10, 2025 – Archbishop Thomas D’Souza of Calcutta, West Bengal, has called upon clergy, religious, and lay faithful to contribute generously to relief efforts for people affected by devastating floods in North India.

The Archbishop made this appeal in a circular issued on September 7, urging the faithful to extend their solidarity through prayer and financial support.

“The recent unprecedented floods in several states in Northern India have devastated the lives and properties of thousands of families. Social media has been conveying to people the grim situation as well as appealing for assistance,” Archbishop D’Souza stated.

Archbishop Andrews Thazhath, President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI), has also issued an earnest appeal to the Catholic Church across the country to extend support to the affected families.

Reinforcing this call, Archbishop D’Souza requested parishes, educational and social institutions, as well as individuals—priests, religious, and lay faithful—to contribute generously to the cause.
