Imphal, Feb 8, 2025 – The All Manipur Catholic Union (AMCU), in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Imphal, organized a one-day seminar at the Retreat House Hall in Mantripukhri, Imphal, on February 8, 2025. Held as part of the Jubilee of the Armed Forces, the event aimed to honour and appreciate the contributions of armed forces personnel, police officers, security personnel, public servants, and government employees for their dedicated service to society.
The seminar commenced with a solemn Holy Mass, presided over by Fr. Dr. Ngaoni Paul, Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Imphal. In his homily, Fr. Paul acknowledged the selfless dedication of Catholic members serving in uniformed services and assured them of the prayers and support of the Catholic faithful in the Archdiocese.
Following the Mass, the seminar formally began with an opening prayer and a welcome address by Dr. Mathew Kamei, President of AMCU.
The first resource speaker of the day, Fr. Dr. T.S. Dominic, parish priest of Awangkhul, delivered a lecture titled "The Role of Laity According to the 2nd Vatican Council." He highlighted the vital role of the laity in the Church and emphasized their responsibility as God’s messengers in the world.
Fr. Dominic’s session was followed by a captivating performance by Miss Jenpui Kamei, a Catholic from Manipur and a contestant on Northeast Voice Hunt—Bring it On, who enthralled the audience with her melodious singing.
The second speaker of the day, Fr. Joseph M. Thohrii, Vice Principal of St. Joseph College, Ukhrul District, presented a talk on "Transformative Leadership of Laity in the Catholic Church in the 21st Century." He emphasized the importance of living exemplary Christian lives and transforming society through one's lifestyle.
A highlight of the event was the release of Fr. Joseph Thohrii’s recently authored book, Pearls of Life, by Most Rev. Dominic Lumon, Archbishop Emeritus of Imphal. The book was launched in the presence of the author, his mother, Mrs. Sania Philomina, AMCU officials, several priests, and 100 officers. Reflecting on this special moment, Fr. Thohrii noted that his mother’s presence made the occasion even more meaningful. He later shared his joy on Facebook, posting, "I am doubly blessed."
This year, the Catholic Church worldwide joyfully celebrates the Jubilee, a sacred occasion marking the beautiful anticipation of Christ's coming into the world in 2025. Let us embrace this blessed time filled with hope, faith, and unity as we reflect on the love and grace that come with this sacred celebration!
