Allahabad, October 1, 2026: Fr George Medepalli, a priest of the Diocese of Allahabad, died at 1:25 a.m. Thursday at AIIMS, Raebareli, following complications from acute pancreatitis. He was 43.
Fr. George was admitted to Nazareth Hospital on September 29 with severe abdominal pain and was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis. He was being transferred to Apollo Hospital in Lucknow when his condition deteriorated while passing through Raebareli. He was taken to AIIMS, where he was pronounced dead.
Born on August 18, 1983, to Yeaurnatnam Medepalli and Claramma, Fr George belonged to St Teresa of Avila Church, Gudivada. He studied theology at St Joseph’s Major Seminary, Khammam, from 2011 to 2014 and was ordained a priest on April 23, 2017, at St Joseph’s Cathedral, Allahabad, by Bp Raphy Manjaly.
During his nine years of priestly ministry, Fr George served in pastoral, educational and biblical apostolate ministries across the diocese. He was Assistant Parish Priest at Assumption Church, Dostpur, from 2017 to 2020 and Headmaster of St Joseph’s College, Prayagraj, from 2020 to 2023.
He later served as Assistant Parish Priest at St Francis Xavier Church, Ashoknagar, from 2023 to 2024. From 2024 until his death, he ministered at St Mary’s Church and School, Taraon.
Fr George also served as Director of the diocesan Bible Apostolate, promoting the study and love of Sacred Scripture among the faithful.
He was known for his simplicity, pastoral availability and commitment to the education and formation of young people. His ministry combined parish work, evangelisation, biblical apostolate and education.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Diocese of Allahabad.
The funeral of Fr. George Medepalli will be held on October 2, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. at St Joseph’s Cathedral, Prayagraj. The funeral cortege will leave the Perpetual Adoration Chapel at 9:15 a.m. for the Cathedral.
The mortal remains of Fr George will be kept for public viewing and prayer from October 1, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. until October 2, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. in the Perpetual Adoration Chapel, Bishop’s House, Prayagraj.
