Kottayam , August 22, 2026: An unusual Catholic wedding in Kerala brought together not just two couples, but an extraordinary gathering of twins.
At the historic St. Mary's Syro-Malabar Metropolitan Cathedral in Changanassery, twin brothers Akhil K. Thomas and Nikhil K. Thomas married twin sisters Magi Mary Thomas and Maria Mary Thomas in a celebration surrounded by family and friends.
But the similarities did not end with the couples. The wedding Mass was celebrated by twin priests, Father Anto Pezhumkattil and Father Ajo Pezhumkattil, of the Diocese of Kanjirappally. Adding another remarkable touch, the altar servers were also twin brothers, Jeron James and Johon James.
Images from the celebration have since attracted widespread attention on social media.
For Magi and Maria, the unusual celebration was more than a coincidence — it was the fulfilment of a childhood dream.
According to accounts given to local media, the sisters had long imagined a wedding in which twins would surround them on their special day. When preparations for their marriage began, they and their families began looking for twin priests who could celebrate the wedding Mass.
Their search eventually led them to Fathers Anto and Ajo Pezhumkattil through a church in Kothanallur that was known for bringing twins together.
The priests readily accepted the invitation, turning what had once seemed like a childhood fantasy into reality.
For the sisters and their families, the gathering of so many twins was not simply a novelty. They saw the remarkable circumstances surrounding the celebration as a blessing and believed that Jesus Christ had made every detail of their dream possible.
At the heart of the unusual arrangements was, of course, the sacrament of marriage.
While the presence of several sets of twins made the occasion memorable, the wedding ultimately brought two families together in faith and love.
The presence of the twin priests and twin altar servers added a distinctive character to the liturgical celebration, creating a scene that was both joyful and extraordinary.
The wedding also offered a reminder that Catholic celebrations often become deeply intertwined with family traditions, personal hopes and the communities in which people live their faith.
Interestingly, this was not the first time Kerala witnessed a wedding involving multiple sets of twins.
In 2015, St. Francis Xavier Church in Thrissur district hosted another unusual celebration involving twin brothers Dilraj and Dilkar and twin sisters Reema and Reena.
That wedding was also celebrated by twin priests, Reji and Roji, while the page boys and flower girls were twins as well.
For Akhil, Nikhil, Magi and Maria, their wedding day will undoubtedly remain a treasured family memory.
What began as a childhood dream of two sisters became a remarkable Catholic celebration featuring twin couples, twin priests and twin altar servers.
In the end, however, beneath the striking symmetry was something much more meaningful: two marriages beginning their journey together before God, surrounded by the people they love — and by a celebration that was as unique as the families at its heart.
