What Are the Must-See Events in Old Goa This Year?

In addition to the daily Masses and veneration of the relics during the ongoing Exposition of the Sacred Relics of St. Francis Xavier in Old Goa, several cultural and musical events will be held in and around the exposition venue during the last week of December.

Projection Mapping at Se Cathedral

From the 24th of December, the Se Cathedral will feature a three-dimensional digital projection on its exterior walls. This 3D projection will feature animated content narrating stories of culture and heritage. These stories connect to the history and identity of the Exposition. The display has been designed in a way to evoke emotions, trigger memories, and challenge perceptions through striking visuals. The projection will be displayed every evening from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM till the 30th of December. Each display session will last five to seven minutes and will be shown every 30 minutes. The animated content which will be shown in the projection will be synchronized with sound to create a seamless and impactful experience. The projections will bring the life and legacy of St. Francis Xavier to the forefront, showcasing his missionary work and influence on Goa's history and spirituality.

Music and Performances

On December 27th, the renowned Shillong Chamber Choir will perform alongside two Goan choral groups at the Se Cathedral lawns. This concert promises to be a harmonious blend of religious and non religious music. Along with religious songs, the choir will also perform songs related to national integration. The concert, set against the stunning backdrop of the Se Cathedral brought to life by projection mapping, will offer an unforgettable audio-visual experience. The event will be a treat for both devotees and tourists attending the exposition. The concert begins at 7:00 PM. Entry to the concert is free, but seating is limited on a first-come, first-served basis. Snack counters at the concert venue will be open until the concert starts.

Art Exhibition: "Footprints of Hope"

At the Convent of St. John of God, an art exhibition "Footprints of Hope" is being held. Inaugurated on 20th November, the exhibition features the work of 62 artists from various backgrounds. Each artist's piece reflects the enduring legacy of St. Francis Xavier and the rich cultural heritage of Goa. The venue for the exhibition, the recently restored Convent of St John of God, elegantly combines seventeenth-century architecture with contemporary artworks that resonate with modern audiences.

Local Fair and Cultural Experiences

A lively local fair runs in parallel with the exposition. The fair showcases Goa's rich culinary and artisanal traditions, offering visitors an immersive cultural experience. Stalls at the fair feature a variety of items, including roasted grams, peanuts, jalebis, halwa, fresh honey, clothing, and much more. In addition, a theme park at the fair provides a range of fun-filled rides for children, making it a delightful experience for all ages.
