Vasai, Maharashtra, September 14, 2025: Catholics around the world are rejoicing today as His Holiness Pope Leo XIV celebrates his 70th birthday. The milestone has inspired celebrations across communities, including in Vasai, Maharashtra. Fr. Dr. Ramesh D’Souza, a Catholic priest from the Diocese of Vasai, has released two heartfelt musical compositions – “Chosen to Serve” and “Shepherd of Light” – to mark the special occasion.
The first song, “Chosen to Serve”, is a soulful piece that pays tribute to Pope Leo's journey of faith, humility, and service. Sung, composed, directed, and produced by Fr. Ramesh, the song is a prayerful dedication that celebrates the Holy Father's leadership, rooted in love, and his tireless mission to spread peace and compassion. Fr. Ramesh and Vijay John have jointly penned the lyrics of the song. With its stirring orchestration and deep spiritual undertones, the composition highlights the call to serve as a shepherd to the faithful.
The second song released by Fr. Ramesh, entitled “Shepherd of Light”, is a special birthday song for Pope Leo. Written, composed, and directed entirely by him, it weaves verses of gratitude and joy with a chorus of blessings for the Holy Father. Fr. Ramesh and Priya Beck have sung the song. It also features a heartfelt stanza in Hindi sung by Fr. Ramesh and a group of chorus singers.
Both songs offer love, reverence, and gratitude to Pope Leo. They not only honour him on his milestone birthday but also inspire the faithful to live a life of service, humility, and devotion.
With these compositions, the Diocese of Vasai joins Catholics across the globe in wishing His Holiness Pope Leo XIV blessings of joy, peace, and strength as he enters his 71st year of life.
