Khumulwng, Tripura, March 27, 2025 – Training sessions on pastoral communication were held for new catechists of the Agartala diocese at Khumulwng Pastoral Centre on March 21 and 22. The sessions were led by Fr. Ivan D'Silva, SVD, Secretary for the Commission for Social Communication of the Diocese of Agartala. They were held as part of an ongoing three-month training programme designed to equip new catechists with essential skills for their ministry. The programme is being led by Fr. Maxim Rodrigues, SVD, Secretary of the diocese's Commission for Faith Formation. Fifteen new catechists from various parishes across the diocese are participating in the programme.
During his training programme on Pastoral Communication, Fr. Ivan covered key topics such as homily preparation and delivery, catechising children, conducting marriage preparation courses, and handling marriage-related cases. He also provided practical training on leading Sunday services and special liturgical celebrations in the absence of a priest.
During the two days of the programme, particiants actively engaged in discussions, raising numerous questions about pastoral communication and the use of media in their ministry. Reflecting on the sessions, Mr. Kasmir Joy Reang emphasised the need for more extensive training, stating, “This class needs more time and training; it would have been good if we had more days for this.” In response, Fr. Ivan encouraged the catechists to apply their newly acquired skills and assured them that additional sessions would be arranged in the future.
This training initiative highlights the diocese’s commitment to enhancing the communication skills of its catechists, ensuring they are well-prepared to serve their communities effectively.
