St. Carlo Acutis’ Mother On What It’s Like To Be The Mother of A Saint

Assisi, Italy, 23 October, 2025 — Antonia Salzano, mother of the recently canonised Carlo Acutis, has described how being the parent of a saint is both a privilege and a personal responsibility. She reflected on her son’s canonisation on 7 September 2025, recalling that Carlo died at age 15 in 2006 from Leukaemia, and said that being his mother now means embracing a deeper call to serve, set an example and grow in faith.

Bishop Domenico Sorrentino of Assisi said that Carlo is “a boy of our time, a model of holiness of the digital age” whose life proves that sainthood is attainable even for young people today.

Salzano shared that Carlo began attending daily Mass from about age 7 and lived by the motto, “To always be united to Jesus, this is my life plan,” balancing school, sport and his work creating a website cataloguing Eucharistic miracles. She affirmed that the death of a child is not a final farewell but a passage to “a more beautiful life with God”.

She encouraged other mothers who have lost a child to see suffering not as an end but as a path to deeper trust, emphasising that the most important thing is to love God and one’s neighbour, and that her son’s legacy calls her to support those who feel lost or distant.
