St. Albert’s College Hosts Annual General Body Meeting in Ranchi

Ranchi, July 24, 2025: The Society of St. Albert’s College, Ranchi, held its Annual General Body Meeting on 23 and 24 July 2025, bringing together bishops, faculty, and students for two days of reflection, discussion, and strategic planning.

The gathering commenced with a solemn Holy Eucharist led by Binay Kandulna, Vice-Chancellor and Bishop of Khunti Diocese. In his homily, he emphasised the call to Christian excellence, stating, “Mediocrity is not a Christian value. To love our enemies is one of the most radical teachings of Jesus Christ. So, generosity opens up the door of God’s grace to all.” The Mass was concelebrated by bishops from Jharkhand, Bihar, and Chhattisgarh, with residential staff and students in attendance.

The first session of the meeting took place in the college’s conference hall, chaired by Bishop Kandulna. Following the opening prayer by Fr. Gabriel Maria Benziger, Spiritual Father, the Rector, Fr. Ajay Kumar Xaxlo, welcomed board members and outlined the objectives and methodology of the meeting.

Sonatan Kisku, Auxiliary Bishop of Dumka Diocese, was formally welcomed and felicitated for attending the meeting for the first time since his episcopal ordination on 13 June 2025. Fr. Dr. Theodore Toppo, Secretary of the Society, presented the minutes of the previous meeting, followed by reports from the Rector, Faculty President, and SAIP Director.

Academic discussions dominated the second session, focusing on pedagogy, institutional progress, and emerging challenges. College President Fr. Dr. Suman Kumar Ekka presented updates on changes to college statutes and policies. A moment of silence was observed in memory of the late Fr. Dr. Maxim Pinto of the Delhi Archdiocese, who had served in the Department of Philosophy at SAC Ranchi for 13 years.

The third session allowed residential students to engage with the bishops in personal dialogue, followed by a fourth session where faculty members shared student feedback with the bishops in a spirit of mutual respect.

Day Two opened with Mass celebrated by Bishop Sonatan Kisku, who reminded the community in his homily that “God has revealed to us His call to each one of us in the midst of challenges and confusion of the modern world.” The gathering also took a moment to sing birthday wishes to Most Rev. Francis Tirkey, Bishop of Purnea.

The day’s discussions, chaired first by Bishop Kandulna and later by Archbishop Vincent Aind, Chancellor of the College, centred on financial statements, budgets, and administrative matters. Sixteen bishops were in attendance. Fr. Ajit Kumar Xess SJ, Provincial of the Ranchi Jesuit Society, participated on both days, promoting regional collaboration.

The meeting concluded with a note of thanks from the Rector and a fellowship meal.
