Sr. Celine Fátima Urges Religious Women to Embrace Prophetic Life at IMD Convocation

Old Goa, March 29, 2026: Sr. Celine Fátima SSAM, Executive Member of the Conference of Religious Women India, called on young religious women to live a deeply rooted and prophetic vocation during the convocation ceremony of the Institute Mater Dei (IMD), Santa Monica Convent, Old Goa.

Addressing the students, she described the occasion as a significant milestone, marking not only the completion of academic formation but the beginning of a renewed missionary journey. She emphasised that formation at IMD is not merely academic, but a grace-filled experience fostering both personal and spiritual growth.

Referring to the institute’s vision—“to grow unto the fullness of Christ and to mediate His vision that all may have life in abundance”—Sr. Celine said this mission lies at the heart of religious life. She encouraged the sisters to remain rooted in gratitude and to recognise God’s presence even in ordinary moments.

Highlighting the holistic formation offered at IMD, she pointed to liturgy, community life and spiritual accompaniment as key elements that have shaped the students. Reminding them that “much has been given,” she urged a responsible and committed response to their vocation.

She outlined three key dimensions of a prophetic religious life. First, she stressed intimacy with God as the foundation of authentic ministry, noting that no training can replace a personal relationship with Christ. Second, she called for attentiveness to God’s voice in a changing world, encouraging discernment within social and cultural realities. Third, she underlined the importance of community life grounded in prayer, compassion and mission, urging care for the elderly and vulnerable, along with small acts of encouragement.

Sr. Celine also highlighted the wider role of women religious as agents of social transformation, spiritual leaders and community builders, urging them to offer a distinctive witness through service and leadership.

She concluded by thanking the staff and formators of IMD for their dedicated service and expressed appreciation to Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrão for his presence and support.

Founded in 1964, the Institute Mater Dei continues to serve as a key centre for theological formation and spiritual renewal in the region.
