Chapaguri, Assam, 25November, 2025 — Bongaigaon diocese marked a historic milestone with the Silver Jubilee of its establishment (2000–2025), together with the Silver Jubilee of the episcopal ordination of its first Bishop, Thomas Pulloppillil. The two-day celebration at the Cathedral Church in Chapaguri brought together more than 30,000 faithful, including bishops, clergy, religious, lay leaders, and political representatives from across the region, expressing gratitude for 25 years of pastoral service, faith formation, and missionary outreach.

Archbishop Leopoldo Girelli, Apostolic Nuncio to India and Nepal, attended as Chief Guest, joining in the thanksgiving and conveying the Holy See’s prayers and blessings for the diocese. The programme included the Solemn Eucharist, reception of the Apostolic Nuncio, felicitation of dignitaries, and cultural performances celebrating the rich heritage and unity of local communities.

A notable highlight on 22 November was the release of the Bodo Lectionary, a milestone for liturgical accessibility in the region. On 23 November, the Silver Jubilee Souvenir and the book Contours of Belonging — A Historical and Anthropological Exploration of the Diocese of Bongaigaon were released as commemorative contributions to the diocese’s history and identity.

The celebrations concluded with a Pontifical Mass followed by a festive meal for the thousands gathered, symbolising communion and fellowship. With renewed commitment to evangelisation and community building, the diocese looks ahead with hope under the leadership of Bishop Thomas Pulloppillil, giving thanks for the blessings of the past 25 years while embracing future mission with faith and purpose.
