Vatican City, January 29, 2025: During his weekly General Audience at the Vatican on Wednesday, Pope Francis urged the faithful to look to St. Joseph as a model of trust, obedience, and faith. Reflecting on the saint’s role in God’s divine plan, the Pope emphasized the importance of welcoming God’s will with openness and love. The address was part of his ongoing catechesis series on the Jubilee Year’s theme, Jesus Christ Our Hope.
The Pope recalled how St. Joseph’s pivotal role in salvation history was revealed to him in a dream. Despite initial uncertainty, Joseph embraced God’s call with unwavering faith, taking Mary as his wife and making a home for Jesus. Pope Francis highlighted Joseph’s silent yet profound obedience, saying, “He does not express himself with idle words but with concrete deeds.”
Referencing the angel’s message to Joseph in the Gospel of Matthew—“Do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home” (Mt 1:20-21)—Pope Francis underscored how Joseph trusted in God and accepted God’s plan for his life without demanding further proof. “He thus enters into the grace of one who knows how to live the divine promise with faith, hope, and love,” the Pope noted.
Encouraging the faithful to emulate St. Joseph, Pope Francis urged believers to be receptive to God’s plans. “Let us ask the Lord for the grace to dream and to be open to God’s dreams,” he said.
Concluding his address, the Pope invited everyone to welcome Christ and His plans for them into their lives as St. Joseph did, with faith and trust.
