Catholics in Odisha's Buleripoda Village Inaugurate New Chapel With Gratitude to Communio

Buleripoda, Odisha, April 29, 2025: The Catholic community of Buleripoda village, in the Diocese of Berhampur, came together in joyful celebration on April 24, 2025, for the inauguration and blessing of their newly constructed chapel — St. George Catholic Church.

The ceremony was led by Rev. Fr. Sanjeeb Kumar Nayak, Vicar General of the Diocese, and attended by priests, religious, and lay faithful from St. Peter Deanery, Mohana. The construction of the chapel, which began in September 2024, was made possible through the generous support of Communio, a Catholic funding body committed to uplifting local church communities.

For years, the faithful of Buleripoda gathered in homes and open spaces for Mass and other prayer services. Recognising the need for a permanent place of worship, Rev. Fr. Isaac Nayak, Parish Priest of Buleripoda, and Rev. Fr. Suresh Chandra Nayak, Financial Administrator of the Diocese, took on the responsibility to coordinate the construction of the chapel.

On behalf of the Diocese of Berhampur and the people of Buleripoda, Bishop Sarat Chandra Nayak expressed heartfelt gratitude to Communio and all benefactors whose contributions made the project a reality.

Standing as a symbol of perseverance and faith, the new chapel is now a permanent spiritual home for the Catholics of Buleripoda and a beacon of hope and devotion for generations to come.
