Pope Leo XIV Meets Ethiopian PM in Private Audience, Receives Cultural Heritage Gifts

Vatican City, 27 May 2025 – Pope Leo XIV received the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed Ali, in a private audience at the Apostolic Palace on 26 May. 


During the cordial meeting, Prime Minister Abiy presented the Holy Father with a selection of Ethiopian coffee, describing it as a reminder of Ethiopia’s rich heritage. He noted that Ethiopia is the birthplace of Arabic coffee. The Prime Minister also gifted the Pope with pure forest honey, highlighting the country’s natural produce.


Pope Leo XIV expressed his appreciation for the thoughtful gifts, and the exchange was marked by a warm and friendly atmosphere.


The meeting underscored Pope Leo XIV’s ongoing commitment to fostering peaceful and respectful dialogue between world leaders, continuing the Vatican’s long-standing tradition of promoting unity and diplomacy across nations.
