Pope Leo Announces His Prayer Intention for October

Vatican City, Oct. 1, 2025: Pope Leo XIV announced his prayer intention for October on Tuesday, calling on the faithful worldwide to pray for “collaboration between different religious traditions.” Speaking in a video released by the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network, the Holy Father invited the universal Church to join him in praying that believers of different religious traditions might work together to defend and promote peace, justice and human fraternity.

Opening the video, Pope Leo prayed, “Lord Jesus, You, who in diversity are one and look lovingly at every person, help us to recognise ourselves as brothers and sisters, called to live, pray, work, and dream together.”

Acknowledging the beauty and the brokenness of the world, the Pope lamented that religion is sometimes used as a cause of division rather than unity.

“Give us your Spirit to purify our hearts, so that we may recognise what unites us and, from there, learn again how to listen and collaborate without destroying,” Pope Leo implored.

The Holy Father emphasised that concrete examples of peace, justice, and fraternity within various religions should inspire humanity to believe that coexistence and cooperation are possible.

He concluded his address with a plea that religions become instruments of unity rather than conflict: “May religions not be used as weapons or walls, but rather be lived as bridges and prophecy: making the dream of the common good credible, accompanying life, sustaining hope and being the yeast of unity in a fragmented world. Amen.”

The Pope Video is a global initiative of the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network, a Pontifical Society dedicated to mobilising Catholics through prayer and action in response to the challenges facing humanity and the mission of the Church. Each month, the initiative shares the Pope’s prayer intentions, encouraging collective spiritual engagement for global causes.
