Pope Francis Launches Global Alliance to Provide Healthcare for One Million Children

Vatican City, September 22, 2024: The Vatican has announced the launch of Pope Francis' Global Alliance for Children’s Health, an international initiative aimed at delivering medical care to one million children over the next three years. This initiative, led by the U.S.-based Patrons of the World’s Children Hospital, connects top hospitals worldwide, including the Vatican’s Bambino Gesù Pediatric Hospital, to provide critical medical treatments, particularly in underserved regions.

The alliance seeks to build a global network of healthcare providers that addresses unmet pediatric needs. Using a “Hub and Spoke” system, centers of medical excellence, such as Bambino Gesù, will serve as Hubs, offering expertise to smaller healthcare facilities—referred to as Spokes—in regions where access to quality healthcare is limited.

During an audience with Pope Francis, Father Enzo Fortunato and Aldo Cagnoli, who are leading the effort, highlighted the initiative's twofold mission: to create a global network of healthcare providers and to transform children’s fragility into strength.
