Vatican City, December 10, 2024: Pope Francis sustained a bruise on his chin after accidentally hitting it against a nightstand on Friday morning. The Vatican confirmed that the pontiff, who will turn 88 later this month, incurred a contusion but remained in good spirits. Despite the visible injury, with a purplish blotch on the right side of his chin and neck, Pope Francis proceeded with his busy schedule, attending nine meetings on Friday, seven on Saturday, and three on Sunday.
The pope, who has dealt with ongoing health issues, including knee and back pain, appeared slightly fatigued during public appearances but continued with his duties, including presiding over religious and public ceremonies. Francis has been using a wheelchair for mobility in recent years but has remained committed to his papal responsibilities. The Vatican spokesperson reassured the public that the injury would not hinder his activities.
