Guwahati, July 17, 2026: The North East India Bishops' Conference (NEIBC) organised a one-day animation programme on ecumenism at Inspiration, Kharghuli, bringing together priests and women religious to promote Christian unity and strengthen collaboration among Churches in the region.
The programme was led by Bishop Thomas Pulloppillil of Bongaigaon, President of the NEIBC Ecumenism Commission, along with Fr. Joy Pallikkunnel, Secretary of the commission. Around 25 priests and women religious participated in the programme.
Fr. Dr. Norbert Herman, SVD, conducted the sessions, encouraging participants to engage in dialogue and explore practical ways of advancing ecumenical cooperation in the North East.
The programme was also attended by Fr. Dr. Amalraj, Assistant Secretary of the North East India Bishops' Conference, and Fr. Dr. K. Jose, SVD, Secretary of the Interreligious Dialogue Commission of the North East India Bishops' Council, who shared perspectives on ecumenical and interreligious engagement.
During the meeting, participants resolved to organise an Ecumenical Christian Octave and a one-day consultation on Indigenous Faith and Culture among the tribal communities of North East India within the coming year. The proposed initiatives are intended to deepen dialogue, mutual understanding and collaboration among Christian communities across the region.
