NCM Seeks Action on Alleged Call for Violence Against Christians in Chhattisgarh

New Delhi, February 27, 2025: The National Commission for Minorities (NCM) has urged the Chhattisgarh government to take immediate action in response to a disturbing social media post and video allegedly calling for violence against Christians in the state.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary of Chhattisgarh on February 25, the Commission highlighted concerns over a Facebook post attributed to Aadesh Soni, a self-proclaimed cow protection vigilante. The post allegedly called for sexual violence and murder targeting Christians in Chhattisgarh. Additionally, a video of Soni speaking at a Dharam Sansad (a religious leaders' gathering) in Prayagraj has surfaced, in which he reportedly referenced an upcoming rally from Raipur to Bishrampur on March 1, aimed at protesting cow slaughter. The speech and the post have raised fears of incitement to violence against the Christian community.

The matter was brought to the Commission's attention by A.C. Michael, National Coordinator of the United Christian Forum, who urged authorities to investigate the threats and take necessary measures to protect minority communities.

Aadesh Soni has denied making any such calls for violence, claiming the Facebook post was fabricated. However, the Commission, citing the sensitivity of the issue, has requested an investigation into the matter and urged authorities to ensure the safety of the Christian community. The Commission also called for preventive action regarding the scheduled rally, warning that it could disturb communal harmony.

The NCM has asked the Chhattisgarh government to furnish a detailed report on the situation and implement measures to maintain law and order.

This development comes amid growing concerns over religious tensions and the safety of minority communities in India. Authorities are yet to respond to the Commission’s request.
