Goa, December 12, 2024: The Madha TV family recently embarked on a historic spiritual journey to honour the sacred relics of St. Francis Xavier during the 18th decennial Exposition in Old Goa. The event saw millions of pilgrims visiting Sé Catedral to venerate the incorruptible remains of the patron saint of Goa. Madha TV, Tamil Nadu’s first Catholic satellite channel, marked its 10th anniversary earlier this year and seized the opportunity to organize a pilgrimage for 75 members of its staff, their families, religious sisters and 24 priests to partake in this deeply significant event.
Led by Fr. David Arokiam, CEO of Madha TV, the pilgrimage was carefully coordinated with the support of key leaders from the channel’s management team, including Fr. Adaikalam, Fr. Jenith, Fr. Marian, and Fr. Paula Jayakumar. This group ensured the smooth execution of the journey, which not only served as a momentous occasion for Madha TV but also strengthened the channel’s ongoing mission of evangelization through media. The pilgrimage was a testament to their commitment to spiritual growth and community engagement.
This year’s theme, “Xubhvortomanache Porgottnnar ami” or “We Are Messengers of the Good News,” reflects the broader vision of the Jubilee Year 2025, aligning with Pope Francis’ theme of “Pilgrims of Hope.” A new prayer and logo were introduced to encourage Christians globally to embrace their roles as messengers of love, hope, and peace.
As part of their pilgrimage, the Madha TV group stayed at the Joseph Vaz Spirituality Centre, making a daily pilgrimage to Sé Catedral to venerate the relics. The group also attended a special Holy Mass at the Basilica of Bom Jesus, where Tamil-speaking priests conducted the service, broadcast live on Madha TV for viewers worldwide. Their journey included visits to significant sites associated with St. Francis Xavier, including the Chapel of St. Francis Xavier at the College of St. Paul, home to a well believed to have miraculous properties. Pilgrims, following tradition, used the well's water for blessings and took some back with them as a spiritual keepsake.
In Tamil Nadu, St. Francis Xavier’s work among the Paravas, building churches and spreading Christianity, remains a key part of his lasting influence. Known for his many miracles, including healing the sick and even raising the dead, his work continues to inspire the faithful worldwide.
The pilgrimage undertaken by the Madha TV family not only deepened their spiritual journey but also contributed to the global celebration of the life and work of St. Francis Xavier, making this event a defining moment for both the pilgrims and the wider Church community.
