Jabalpur Diocese Charts Mission Roadmap Toward 2033 with Focus on Joyful Witness

Jabalpur, Feb. 12, 2026: The Diocese of Jabalpur has set in motion a renewed missionary roadmap toward 2033, bringing together 86 diocesan priests and men religious for a day of prayer, discernment and strategic planning centred on the theme “Joy of Priestly and Consecrated Life for Mission 2033.”

The gathering, described by participants as a grace-filled encounter, sought to rekindle the spiritual vitality of clergy and religious while outlining concrete pastoral goals for the years ahead.

Inaugurating the programme, Bishop Valan Arasu of Jabalpur called for a rediscovery of the joy that springs from living faith, unwavering trust and surrender to God’s will. He urged priests and religious to recognise themselves as gifts entrusted to God’s people and to renew their missionary commitment with hope and enthusiasm.

Fr. Charles Leon, Executive Secretary of the CCBI Commission for Vocations, Seminaries, Clergy and Religious (VSCR), animated the discernment process. In his reflection on being “called and gifted to be the Mission of the Word,” he emphasised that mission is not simply an activity undertaken by the Church but the very identity of a priest and a consecrated person. Drawing inspiration from Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen’s vision of the joyful priest, he underscored that authentic witness flows from interior communion with Christ.

Participants engaged in a contextual analysis of the Indian mission, examining statistical data from the Diocese of Jabalpur spanning 1950 to 2024 alongside present-day realities in Madhya Pradesh. The exercise aimed to help clergy “read the signs of the times” with clarity and courage. An Emmaus-style interactive session invited them to reflect on walking with people in their struggles, listening to their aspirations and embodying Christ’s compassionate presence.

A key highlight of the seminar was a structured discernment session focused on the question: “What does God desire from us as clergy and religious to be meaningfully different by 2033?” Using the SOAR framework — identifying strengths, opportunities, aspirations and results — participants prayerfully mapped out a vision for transformation. The process fostered candid sharing and led to specific, measurable commitments for the coming years.

In the afternoon plenary, these reflections were translated into practical action. Deanery-wise workshops produced mission plans rooted in prayer, collaboration and pastoral realism, with each deanery presenting its roadmap for implementation.

The seminar concluded with a valedictory session marked by gratitude and renewed determination. Coordinated by Fr. Christuraj, MP Regional Secretary of VSCR, the initiative was widely seen as a milestone in the diocese’s journey toward Mission 2033.

Church leaders said the discernment process reaffirmed a central conviction: that joyful, Spirit-led and mission-focused clergy and religious remain the enduring strength and hope of the Church as it looks to the future.
