Indian Youth Join Over 800,000 Pilgrims in Rome for Global Youth Jubilee

Vatican, July 30, 2025: Over 800,000 young Catholics from around the world have gathered in Rome for the Youth Jubilee 2025, taking place from 28 July to 3 August at the Vatican. Among them are Indian youth groups who are joyfully carrying the spirit of their parishes and dioceses to the heart of the Catholic Church.

On Tuesday evening, 29 July, the pilgrims were welcomed in St. Peter’s Square with a Solemn Mass celebrated by Monsignor Rino Fisichella, Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization. The highlight of the evening was the appearance of Pope Leo XIV, who toured the square in his popemobile, greeting the youth with smiles and blessings. From the altar, the Holy Father urged the young people to pray for peace, reminding them that their voice would be heard far beyond St. Peter’s Square.

Indian youth groups, representing various dioceses and Catholic movements, are actively participating in this once-in-a-lifetime pilgrimage. They are walking through the Holy Doors of the four major basilicas in Rome—St. Peter’s, St. John Lateran, St. Paul Outside the Walls, and St. Mary Major—following a tradition that symbolizes spiritual renewal and reconciliation.

For the Indian pilgrims, the experience has been deeply moving. Many describe it as a journey of faith and global fraternity, standing shoulder to shoulder with youth from every continent, all united in the joy of the Gospel.

As the Youth Jubilee 2025 continues, the voices and prayers of these young people—including the vibrant Indian contingent—resonate as a sign of hope for the world and the Church. The Youth Commission of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India is taking lead and guiding these pilgrims.
