New Delhi, 6 June, 2025: India reported four Covid-19-related deaths and 498 new Covid cases in the past 24 hours, according to data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Friday morning. The data showed that the country’s active caseload has risen to 5,364.
The four Covid-19-related deaths occurred in Kerala (2), Punjab (1), and Karnataka (1), with all four victims being elderly individuals who had pre-existing health conditions, including diabetes, hypertension, and pneumonia.
Kerala continues to report the highest number of active COVID-19 cases, followed by New Delhi, West Bengal, and Maharashtra. Since May 22, active cases have increased sharply—from 257 to over 5,000—raising concerns among public health officials.
In response to the surge, the central government has issued advisories to all states and union territories, urging them to ensure the availability of essential medical supplies, such as oxygen and life-saving medications. The Indian Medical Association has also called for sustained preventive measures, including hand hygiene and the use of face masks.
Health experts have stressed the importance of distinguishing COVID-19 from other viral fevers, as these illnesses often share common symptoms such as fever and fatigue. Additionally, they have urged vulnerable groups, particularly the elderly and individuals with pre-existing health conditions, to seek immediate medical attention if symptoms persist or worsen.
