Delhi Police Deny Permission for Annual Way of the Cross Procession

New Delhi, April 13, 2025: The Delhi Police has denied permission for the Annual Way of the Cross procession, a traditional event held on Palm Sunday, sparking disappointment among the Catholic community. The procession, which involves the faithful walking from St. Mary’s Church, Old Delhi, to the Sacred Heart Cathedral, Gole Dak Khana, has been conducted peacefully for many years without any reported disruptions.

The Catholic community questions the denial, citing that other communities and groups are often granted permission for processions and rallies, even during peak hours on working days. The decision has raised concerns about equal treatment and religious freedom.

The event's organisers emphasise the peaceful and law-abiding nature of the Christian community, appealing to authorities to ensure justice and equality.
