Eluru, February 26, 2026 — In a swift humanitarian response, the Eluru Social Service Center extended emergency assistance to two families whose homes were destroyed in separate fire incidents in villages of the Diocese of Eluru.
The first incident occurred in Jagannadhapuram under Janampeta Quasi Parish, where an electrical short circuit triggered a blaze followed by a gas cylinder explosion. The residence of Mr. Vannekooti Maheshwara Rao and his wife Sara was completely gutted, destroying clothing, household items, furniture, and cash. The family escaped unharmed but was left without shelter or possessions.
A similar tragedy struck Kodigudem under Rallakunta Parish, where an electrical fault caused a fire that consumed the home of an elderly couple, Mr. Manukonda Bhushanam and Mrs. Savitramma. With the assistance of neighbours, the couple managed to escape safely, though their dwelling and essential belongings were reduced to ashes.
Upon receiving information about the incidents, staff of the Social Service Center promptly visited both locations to assess the damage and initiate relief measures. The affected families were provided with rice, cooking utensils, clothing, and other essential supplies to support them in the immediate aftermath of the disaster.
Fr. Tatapudi Immanuel, Director of the Social Service Center and Diocesan Chancellor, informed Bishop Jayarao Polimera of Eluru, about the situation. Responding with pastoral concern, the Bishop extended financial assistance of equal amounts to both families to help them meet urgent needs and begin rebuilding their lives.
Fr. Immanuel affirmed that the Social Service Center remains committed to accompanying families in distress and pledged continued support wherever necessary.
Through timely intervention and compassionate service, the Diocese of Eluru once again witnessed to its mission of charity, offering practical assistance and renewed hope to those affected by unforeseen calamities.
