Kolkata, January 25, 2025: The Christian Unity Octave began in Kolkata on January 18, 2025, with an inaugural prayer service at the Baptist Mission Church on A.J.C. Bose Road. Leaders and congregants from various Christian churches in the city attended the event.
Throughout the week-long Octave, several prayer meetings and conferences took place at different churches in Kolkata to discuss ways to increase unity among various Christian denominations. Rev. Fr. Basil B. Mandi, Diocesan Secretary for Ecumenism, who developed the liturgy for the Octave, and Rev. Fr. Sunil F. Rozario, Regional Secretary, played key roles in organizing events for the week-long celebration.
Observed annually between January 18 and January 25 in the Northern Hemisphere, the Christian Unity Octave is a week dedicated to fostering unity among Christians. It features shared prayers, liturgies, and services across denominations, emphasizing the importance of unity in diversity.
The Octave will conclude in Kolkata on January 25, 2025, with a grand ecumenical service at the Church of Christ the King, Park Circus.
