Vatican city, December 23, 2024: Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Vatican Secretary of State, visited the Bambino Gesù Children’s Hospital on December 20 to deliver a heartfelt Christmas message of hope to doctors, nurses, patients and their families. Continuing a long-standing tradition, Cardinal Parolin brought the Pope’s blessings, reminding all present that the opening of the Holy Door this Christmas would mark the start of a Jubilee focused on hope. “May it be a passage of hope for everyone,” he stated. The visit, which also included a prayer gathering in the hospital chapel, underscored the significance of the season and the spiritual support provided by the Vatican.
The Cardinal, who was welcomed by Hospital President Tiziano Onesti, was joined by Duchess Salviati and Medical Director Massimiliano Raponi during a tour of the Nephrology and Rheumatology wards. In his visits to patients and families, Cardinal Parolin conveyed Pope Francis' greetings, emphasizing that the Jubilee, starting December 24, should be a time for healing and renewed hope. He highlighted the Bambino Gesù as a "place of hope" where individuals find not just medical care but also spiritual solace. "Jesus does not disappoint," he reminded them, urging all to hold onto the hope that Christ offers, especially in challenging times.
