Jalandhar, Punjab - In a powerful homily delivered today to the Religious of Jalandhar, Bishop Jose Sebastian T. emphasized the importance of faith, love, and service, drawing inspiration from the lives of Abraham and Jesus Christ.
Reflecting on Abraham of the Old Testament, Bishop Jose T of Jalandhar highlighted Abraham's unwavering faith and hope in God's promises, despite facing numerous challenges and temptations. He encouraged the consecrated individuals present to emulate Abraham's example, acknowledging that their own faith is often tested by worldly attractions and institutional pressures.
The Bishop lamented the decline of faith among some religious individuals, citing incidents of priests and religious taking their own lives, and the prioritization of personal welfare over spiritual focus. He urged the community to recommit themselves to their original charism and fervour, emphasizing that their love for Jesus Christ is the foundation of their service to the Church.
Bishop Jose T stressed the importance of serving the Church and its people, rather than seeking personal gain or comfort. He encouraged the religious to be stewards, not masters, and to prioritize the growth and well-being of their communities.
Quoting Pope Francis, Bishop Jose T reminded the community that they are not a proselytizing religion, but an attractive one, and that their witness value is crucial in these times. He called on them to return to their commitment, love their people, and go beyond their own comforts, embracing the cross and sacrificing for the sake of others.
