AICUF Karnataka Marks World Paper Bag Day with Statewide Eco Drive

Karnataka, July 21, 2025: The All India Catholic University Federation (AICUF) Karnataka marked World Paper Bag Day on 12th July 2025 by launching a statewide Paper Bag Drive to promote environmental consciousness and sustainable alternatives. AICUFers from various institutions actively participated by donating old newspapers in the days leading up to the event.

The main event was held in Bengaluru at the Karnataka Jesuit Education Society (KJES) Youth Centre, where AICUFers from different city-based units came together for a day of awareness and action. Addressing the importance of sustainable choices, Mr. Shaik Salman, AICUF Coordinator, highlighted the importance and the vital role youth play in environmental stewardship. Participants then engaged in making paper bags, after which they were divided into groups to distribute the bags to street vendors and shopkeepers in the nearby areas, encouraging them to reduce the use of plastic.

Simultaneously, in Mangaluru, AICUFers gathered at St Aloysius (Deemed to be University) for a parallel drive. After preparing the bags, the students distributed them around the university premises, sensitising local vendors and the public to the need for eco-friendly practices.

While modest in scale, the drive carried a meaningful message of environmental responsibility. It demonstrated the power of youth-led action in fostering sustainability and promoting positive change within communities.
