245 Violent Attacks on Christians in India Reported in the Past 120 Days

New Delhi, 16 May 2025: Between January and April 2025, 245 incidents of violence against Christians were reported from 19 states across India, according to data compiled by the United Christian Forum (UCF) through its toll-free helpline 1-800-208-4545. The surge reflects a sustained rise in communal hostility in the country.

Launched on 19 January 2015, the UCF helpline supports Christians facing persecution in India by guiding them toward legal remedies and helping them engage with public authorities. The service is especially critical for vulnerable groups unfamiliar with legal protections.

According to the UCF’s Violence Monitor Report 2025, the rate of violence now averages two incidents per day, a steep rise compared to 127 incidents reported in 2014. Year-on-year data show a persistent upward trend, with incidents rising to 834 in 2024.

In the first four months of 2025 alone, Uttar Pradesh topped the list with 50 reported incidents, followed by Chhattisgarh with 46 and Karnataka with 22. Other affected states include Rajasthan (18), Jharkhand (17), Bihar (16), and Andhra Pradesh (14), among others. Even union territories like Delhi and states like Tamil Nadu and Telangana recorded isolated attacks.

The report also highlights specific victim categories, with 30 tribals and 6 Dalits among those targeted.

The pattern of violence and its widespread geography raise serious concerns over the protection of minority rights and the rule of law in India. With UCF documenting these cases, the need for urgent policy intervention and accountability grows stronger to preserve India's constitutional promise of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity for all citizens.
