The Twenty-Four Glory Be Novena is a nine-day prayer in honour of St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus, seeking her intercession for personal intentions and giving thanks for the blessings and graces God bestowed upon her during her 24 years of life.

The novena can be prayed at any time, but it may be prayed from 22nd – 30th September in preparation for the Feast of St. Thérèse of Lisieux on 1st October. Each day, the Glory Be to the Father is recited 24 times in thanksgiving for the 24 years of her earthly life, while entrusting one’s intentions to her intercession.

The Twenty-Four Glory Be Novena traces its origins to 1925, when Jesuit priest Fr. Charles Putigan promoted the devotion after attributing a favour he received to the intercession of St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus. He encouraged devotees to pray 24 Glory Be prayers each day for nine days, giving thanks for the 24 years of St. Thérèse’s life and seeking her intercession.

Novena Prayer -

'Holy Trinity, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost, I thank Thee for all the blessings and favors Thou hast showered upon the soul of Thy servant Theresa of the Child Jesus, during the twenty-four years she spent here on earth, and in consideration of the merits of this Thy most beloved Saint, I beseech Thee to grant me this favor, if it is in accordance with Thy most Holy Will and is not an obstacle to my salvation'.

After the above prayer, follow the Twenty-Four Glory Be's, between each of which may be included this short prayer:

'Saint Theresa of the Child Jesus, pray for us.'

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
