AIZAWL, MIZORAM — In a significant step toward strengthening grassroots pastoral plans, Rev. Fr. Vijay Machado, Executive Secretary of the CCBI Commission for Faith Formation, visited the Diocese of Aizawl on May 24, 2026. The visit aimed to observe and support the local implementation of the comprehensive "Womb to Tomb" catechetical ministry.
The day's events commenced with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, attended by catechists, children, youth, and adults. During his homily, Fr. Machado emphasized the lifelong nature of faith formation and the vital need for divine guidance.
"Womb to Tomb catechesis will strengthen the faith of the people," Fr. Machado stated. "The role of the Holy Spirit is very much essential in this journey. Therefore, we need to pray to the Holy Spirit for the gift of Wisdom every day."
Following the Mass, Fr. Machado, accompanied by Diocesan Director Fr. David L. and members of the Sunday School Board, embarked on a comprehensive tour of the parish's faith formation programs. The delegation visited every age-specific division of the "Womb to Tomb" initiative, which includes:
During these visits, Fr. Machado observed that each section is well-supported, with two to five dedicated catechists assigned to each group. The catechists enthusiastically shared their teaching methodologies, discussed the syllabi they utilize, and expressed the deep joy they experience in passing on the Catholic faith to their respective groups.
The tour concluded with a close, productive interaction between Fr. Machado and the Sunday School Board President and its members, fostering a collaborative dialogue on the future of faith education in the region.
A highly motivating and enriching highlight of the visit was the observation of Aizawl's unique Sunday pastoral structure.
To ensure that faith formation remains the absolute priority, the parish and diocese strictly reserve Sunday mornings exclusively for catechism—no other programs or events are scheduled during this time. Furthermore, the afternoon hours are dedicated to practical, catechetical witnessing activities, allowing the faithful to actively live out the lessons learned in the morning.
