JAMSHEDPUR, July 20 — In a significant step toward strengthening faith formation, the Diocese of Jamshedpur hosted a comprehensive training program for 67 priests and religious on July 20. Organized in collaboration with the CCBI Commission for Faith Formation, the event focused on integrating Synodal approaches into catechesis and implementing the guidelines of the National Catechetical Directory.
The program, which commenced at 9:30 AM, was held under the patronage of Most Rev. Dr. Telesphore Bilung SVD, Bishop of Jamshedpur, and spearheaded by Rev. Fr. Valerian Lobo, the Diocesan Secretary for the Faith Formation Commission. Fr. Lobo opened the day by outlining the program's dynamics and formally welcoming the key resource person, Fr. Vijay Machado, Executive Secretary of the CCBI Commission for Faith Formation.
In his keynote address, Bishop Telesphore emphasized the critical need for equipping and training lay catechists, aligning the diocese's pastoral efforts with the vision outlined in the National Catechetical Directory.
Fr. Vijay Machado led the core sessions of the day. He provided deep insights into adopting Synodal approaches within the catechetical ministry of the Jamshedpur Diocese. Additionally, he introduced the National Catechetical Directory, breaking down its practical implications for local parishes and communities.
The training went beyond lectures, incorporating engaging and practical activities. Participants tested their grasp of the material through a lively quiz competition based on the morning sessions. The afternoon transitioned into an interactive workshop where attendees collaborated on a strategic three-year pastoral plan, openly discussing current strengths and identifying future challenges in faith formation.
The fruitful day concluded with final remarks from Bishop Telesphore, who expressed his gratitude to the organizers, the resource person, and all attendees for their active and enthusiastic participation.
