Faith in the Family: St. John's YOUCAT Group Reflects on the Power of Prayer

BENGALURU, May 23: Embracing the call to strengthen spiritual bonds within the home, the St. John’s YOUCAT group gathered today at the St. John’s Medical College campus for an intensive study session and meeting dedicated to "Family Faith," focusing specifically on YOUCAT (Youth Catechism of the Catholic Church) No.373.

The focused session brought together ten dedicated members and was animated by Mrs. Jyothi Sylvia Vas, YOUCAT INDIA, the group's animator, who guided the participants through a deep theological and practical exploration of faith within the contemporary family structure.

The Power of Family Prayer in Today's Context

The meeting commenced with an opening segment led by Mrs. Vas, who delivered an insightful input session on the paramount importance of family prayer and shared faith in today's fast-paced world.

Rooted in the teachings of YOUCAT No. 373—which highlights the family as a unique "domestic church" and a school of prayer—the presentation challenged participants to view regular family prayer not merely as an obligation, but as the foundational shield protecting modern Christian households.

Deepening through Group Study & Personal Reflection

Following the central input, the members transitioned into a highly interactive, two-group study layout to dissect the text and apply it directly to their lives:

  • Textual Analysis: The groups engaged in a deeper, systematic reading of the catechism text, analyzing how parents and children are called to form a mutual community of prayer.
  • Experiential Sharing: Members opening up to one another, sharing their personal family faith experiences, the challenges of maintaining consistency, and the spiritual fruits they have witnessed through shared prayer at home.
Our Collective Resolution: Moving beyond mere academic discussion, the participants concluded the study by formulating concrete personal resolutions to actively improve, structure, and prioritize daily family prayer and other key faith matters within their respective homes.

Looking Forward

The participants expressed immense satisfaction and joy over the fruitfulness of the study session, noting how the intimate format allowed for genuine, vulnerability-driven peer learning. The event concluded seamlessly with a unified prayer, leaving members spiritually refreshed and equipped to lead their families closer to Christ.
