AJMER, Aug. 24, 2026 — In an effort to make faith formation more engaging and relevant for today's youth, the Commission for Faith Formation of the Diocese of Ajmer organized a comprehensive Orientation and Training Programme for catechism teachers today.
Held at the Pastoral Centre in Ajmer, the day-long seminar drew 40 catechism teachers from various parishes across the diocese. The programme focused heavily on modernizing catechetical instruction, specifically through the introduction of the Dialogical Method and YOUCAT (Youth Catechism) Training of Trainers (ToT) modules.
Interactive Sessions and New Approaches
The seminar was led by Fr. Isaac Akash, Director of the Commission for Faith Formation Formation from the Diocese of Gwalior. Fr. Akash guided the educators through highly interactive sessions, emphasizing the critical role catechists play in shaping the spiritual lives of young people.
Rather than relying on traditional rote memorization, the training highlighted the Dialogical Method—a conversational approach designed to foster open dialogue and deeper understanding. The sessions featured practical group workshops, where participants could actively practice these new techniques.
"The focus is to help children not merely learn facts about their faith, but to grow into a personal and meaningful relationship with Jesus Christ," organizers noted.
Following the workshops, participants reported feeling highly enlightened by the training. Many described the hands-on approach as a deeply positive experience that provided them with concrete tools to connect with children more effectively.
A Call to Meaningful Ministry
Most Rev. John Carvalho, Bishop of Ajmer, graced the event and delivered an inspiring address to the gathering. He imparted his blessing upon the teachers, commending their dedication and selfless service to the spiritual development of the diocese's youth.
Organized by Fr. Raymond Fernandes, Director and Secretary of the Commission for Faith Formation, along with his team, the event also served as a networking opportunity. Teachers from distant parts of the diocese were able to interact, share grassroots experiences, and renew their commitment to their vital ministry.
The seminar concluded at 4:00 p.m. with a felicitation ceremony, where all participants received a token of gratitude for their service. The overarching message of the day resonated clearly: catechesis is far more than the communication of religious knowledge; it is a profound mission of leading children toward a personal encounter with Christ.
