Aizawl Diocese Hosts Strategic Session on Pastoral Plan 2033 and Faith Formation

AIZAWL, May 21, 2026 — The Faith Formation Commission of the Aizawl Diocese organized a pivotal meeting and session today for its Sunday School Board members at the Bishop's House. The session focused extensively on the preparation of the Pastoral Plan and the active implementation of the Commission for Faith Formation's initiatives.

The strategic gathering was graced by Fr. Vijay Machado, Executive Secretary of the CCBI Commission for Faith Formation, and attended by 18 key members, including representatives from the Diocesan Pastoral Council, the Youth Commission, and local catechists.

Structuring the Future of Faith Formation

The Sunday School Board operates as a unique wing within the Aizawl Diocese's Commission for Faith Formation. During the session, Fr. David, Director of the Commission, along with his team, provided a comprehensive overview of the catechetical ministry's recent growth, alongside updates regarding the textbook committee and ongoing formation efforts.

The highlight of the event was a detailed presentation by Fr. Vijay Machado. He guided the attendees through the administration of the CCBI and introduced the Pastoral Plan 2033. Fr. Machado provided a step-by-step breakdown of how to prepare and implement this pastoral plan at the diocesan level, emphasizing how these structured efforts will catalyze the Commission's future growth and outreach.

Leadership and Appreciation

Church leadership expressed strong support for the ongoing catechetical initiatives:

  • Fr. Nazarius Lakra, SDB, Regional Secretary, commended the dedicated work carried out by the diocesan commission.
  • Bishop Stephen extended his gratitude to the National Secretary for his official visit and continuous support. He underscored the critical need for a structured Pastoral Plan within the diocese and urged all members to cooperate fully in its implementation.

A Model Diocese: "Womb to Tomb" Catechesis

The Diocese of Aizawl, situated in a region with a strong Christian presence, stands out nationally for its deeply synodal approach. It has become a model diocese for its systematic "Womb to Tomb" catechesis, an initiative implemented seamlessly across the diocesan, deanery, and parish levels. Notably, even adults actively participate in regular catechism classes.

The success of this ministry is heavily driven by grassroots support and dedication:

  • Lay Financial Support: The catechetical ministry is financially sustained by monthly contributions from the lay faithful across every parish.
  • Dedicated Catechists: The diocese employs 23 permanent lay catechists who render full-time, dedicated service and receive decent remuneration.
  • Voluntary Service: A robust network of voluntary catechists and teachers generously offer their time and free service to nurture the faith of the community.

The meeting concluded on a hopeful note, setting a clear, actionable path forward for the spiritual education and pastoral development of the Aizawl Diocese over the coming decade. The fellowship dinner was organised for the participants
