CCBI Commission for Canon Law to Host National Conference in Bangalore

Bangalore, August 21, 2025: The CCBI Commission for Canon Law has announced a National Conference for Major Superiors and Councillors on Canonical Issues, scheduled to take place from 13 to 15 November 2025 at Paalana Bhavana, the Archdiocesan Pastoral Centre in Bangalore.

The gathering, designed for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, aims to bring together superiors, councillors and canon law experts to address pressing canonical matters. Registration for the event will remain open until 15 October 2025, with a conference fee of Rs. 2750. Participation is capped at 60 delegates.

Focus on Canonical Themes

The conference will explore a wide range of themes relevant to consecrated life. Sessions will cover the fundamentals of patrimony, constitutions, autonomy and evangelical counsels. Other areas of focus include the formation of candidates, the role and challenges of major superiors and councillors, and stewardship in the administration of temporal goods.

Participants will also study canonical praxis concerning the separation of members, including transfer, leave of absence, exclaustration, departure and dismissal. Further discussions will address the relationship between bishops and religious communities, concluding with a panel discussion on canonical issues for Institutes of Consecrated Life (ICL) and Societies of Apostolic Life (SAL).

Renowned Canonists to Lead Sessions

The conference will feature renowned canonists as resource persons, ensuring expert input and guidance throughout the sessions. According to organisers, the event is designed not only to provide academic and pastoral insights but also to strengthen leadership in religious congregations.

Who Can Participate

Eligibility is restricted to senior leadership within religious institutions, including Superior Generals, Provincials, Vice-Provincials, Superiors and Councillors. By engaging directly with canonical issues, participants will gain deeper clarity and practical tools for governance and administration.
