Blessed Rani Maria, FCC – A Martyr of Our Times

Indore Diocese – 12 January 2026:The Communio team made a prayerful and meaningful visit to the tomb of Blessed Rani Maria, FCC, recalling her powerful witness of faith, courage, self-giving love for the poor and marginalised, and her deep missionary spirit, which resonates closely with the charism of Communio.

The visit began at the place of her martyrdom, where Blessed Rani Maria was brutally attacked and her body abandoned. This sacred site offered a profound moment of silence and reflection. The team then proceeded to the Church and tomb of Blessed Rani Maria, where her mortal remains are enshrined. Time was spent in prayer, entrusting the mission of Communio and the Church in India to her intercession. Her life and martyrdom continue to inspire a commitment to justice, compassion, and Gospel-rooted missionary zeal.

The Communio team also visited the blessed Rani maria Ashram, experiencing a moment of spiritual communion with the charism of the Franciscan Clarist Congregation. This was followed by a visit to the cloistered convent of the FCC Sisters, where the team encountered the silent yet powerful witness of prayer and sacrifice offered for the Church and the world.

A particularly moving moment was the visit to Blessed Rani Maria’s room, preserved as a sacred space of memory. The simplicity of her life, her deep faith, and her total surrender to God spoke silently yet profoundly, renewing the missionary commitment of the Communio team.

The visit was a grace-filled experience, strengthening the spirit of prayer, communion, and mission. The Communio team expressed their sincere gratitude to the Franciscan Clarist Congregation (FCC) for their warm hospitality and for faithfully preserving the legacy of Blessed Rani Maria.

Communio also gratefully acknowledges Fr. Herman, Parish Priest of Blessed Rani Maria Church; the Sisters of the Blessed Rani Maria Ashram and FCC Cloistered Convent; and the community at Snehasadan, where Blessed Rani Maria once lived. Special thanks are extended to Bishop Thomas Mathew, Bishop of the Diocese of Indore, and Sr. Regi for their guidance and support in making this visit possible.
